Magali Delmas, assistant professor in the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, believes that industry can be both “green” and profitable— and she has a wealth of experience to back it up. Her experience includes extensive work in Europe, including a position in corporate strategy for Framatome, a nuclear engineering company. She also held a position with the Industry Directorate at the European Commission, where she coordinated research on the impact of environmental regulation on innovation. She teaches theories and frameworks that analyze how companies can turn pressure to protect the environment into business opportunities. Delmas relies on real-life cases to illustrate challenges and solutions. “In order to propose solutions, we need understanding of the corporation and the language of business strategy,” she explains. “A firm must be profitable or it will die, so we must make new environmental practices profitable.” |
