| G. Reginald Daniel Assistant Professor, Sociology |
|
Sociologist Reginald Daniel believes that his role as a teacher is to engage a roomful of undergraduates in such a way as to make all his students feel that they can express themselves openly, that no question is a stupid one, and that respect for the ideas of others, even if unshared, is an important life lesson. Daniel says it is a daunting task. Yet he finds it to be the best way to get his students to “liberate themselves from preconceptions.” In his courses on comparative multicultural and multiracial issues, Daniel says his goal is to teach his students to “listen and to hear, to open their minds to other points of view.” He adds that a teacher should “always remember that he or she is a learner, as well.” Daniel says he learns something new from his students every day. |
