 Adebisa Agboola
  Associate Professor, Mathematics

To hear mathematician Adebisi Agboola talk about his work and teaching is to know just what he finds so fascinating about the subject. “Mathematics is beautiful, creative, full of mystery,” he says. “It has more in common with art than science.”

Agboola teaches undergraduate courses in both the College of Letters and Science and the College of Creative Studies, where “almost all” of his students go on to graduate school. He also teaches several graduate courses. He says that his students have to be well disciplined and willing to work hard. There are, he adds, plenty of career options and opportunities for undergraduates who study math “quite apart from the fact that it can be exciting and offers excellent training in analytical skills, which are becoming more and more indispensable nowadays.” As a child, he says he hated math, “until I read a Time-Life book on the subject and knew that was what I wanted to study.”
